As it celebrates its 60th anniversary, Dussmann Group has announced record sales of €2.8 billion in fiscal year 2022.

The company maintained an EBITDA margin of 6.1%, against 6.4% the previous year, with Dussmann Technical Solutions and the Italian market played crucial roles in fueling its growth. However, Dussmann Group also faced challenges, including the persistent impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the Care & Kids division, rising energy and food costs, and higher labor expenses due to adjustments under collective agreements.

Dussmann Group exhibited remarkable growth, with consolidated Group sales soaring from €2.3 billion to €2.8 billion, representing a substantial increase of 20.2% in fiscal 2022. The company’s EBITDA margin remained strong at 6.1%, matching the previous year’s high level of 6.4%, exceeding expectations.

Within the Dussmann division, which encompasses integrated facility management, food services, and technical solutions, sales rose by 25.8% to reach €2.3 billion, accounting for 80.8% of the consolidated Group sales (compared to €1.8 billion in 2021). Dussmann Facility Management and Food Services collectively contributed €1.9 billion to this figure, denoting a sales increase of 17.5% (compared to €1.6 billion in 2021). Dussmann achieved notable success in Italy, driven by strong new customer acquisitions in the healthcare segment. Moreover, the food services business in Germany witnessed positive growth, with an increase in the number of customers at corporate restaurants as pandemic restrictions eased. Dussmann Technical Solutions, established in 2019 as the umbrella organization for the company’s specialists in plant engineering and technical services, achieved sales of €393 million (compared to €208 million in 2021). This growth was primarily attributed to the successful completion of major multiyear electrical engineering projects in the life sciences sector and data centers, allowing Dussmann Technical Solutions to record the full amount of net proceeds.

The Care & Kids division, encompassing senior care (Kursana) and day care for children (Dussmann KulturKindergarten and Kinder, Kinder), maintained stability, reporting sales of €496 million, which remained consistent with the previous year. This division accounted for 17.8% of the overall consolidated Group sales in 2022.

Dussmann das KulturKaufhaus surpassed pre-pandemic sales, achieving a notable increase of 26.7% to reach €38 million (compared to €30 million in 2021). This success can be attributed to strong growth in the company’s online store and the recovery of tourism in Berlin.

The group also expanded its workforce, with the number of employees increasing from 64,600 to 66,000 by the end of 2022.

Wolf-Dieter Adlhoch, Dussmann Group, CEO, says, “We achieved impressive results predominantly through organic growth.”

Dussmann Group has implemented a Next Level strategy, positioning itself as a flexible strategic partner that identifies solutions to emerging trends including ESG and sustainability, and the need for building technology that help customers reduce their carbon footprint.
