The United Kingdom Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has opened an investigation into yesterday afternoon's partial collapse of a building on the site of the former "Didcot A" power station in Oxfordshire which has left one person dead, five injured, three reported missing, and resulted in reports of local residents requiring treatment for dust inhalation.
As emergency teams with sniffer dogs and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) with thermal imaging cameras continue to search for survivors, initial indications from site owner RWE Npower are that all casualties are employees of specialist demolition contractor Coleman & Company which is understood to have conducted a controlled explosion at 16:00 GMT on Tuesday.
Didcot A was decommissioned in 2013 when it was replaced by a new generation o more efficient gas-powered plant ("Didcot B").
