Delivering Cooling Solutions for Fenwick’s New Bracknell Store

When Weatherite were asked to tender for the design and manufacture of air handling units (AHU) at the new Fenwick store in Bracknell, Berkshire, they proved their efficiency in more ways than one.

For as well as deploying newly developed 3D visualisation software to quickly design and specify the most efficient and cost-effective solution for the project, the company delivered AHU with up to 76.5 per cent efficiency (in excess of a 2018 ErP legislation requirement of 72 per cent).

Fenwick is one of the UK's oldest department store chains and the Bracknell store - the Company's first new outlet in more than a decade, a marquee openings in the major redevelopment of the Berkshire town.

Weatherite designed, built and delivered a total of six Air Handling Units - five of which featured thermal wheel units to provide optimum energy savings and reduced carbon emissions.

Working on the project with contractors Woodward & Co (Environmental) Ltd, which specialises in the design & installation of building services within the retail & leisure sectors, Weatherite had to be competitive on price, but the fact that their solution included thermal wheels emphasised Weatherite's commitment to delivering even greater energy efficiency.

Andrew Dunning, Director of Woodward & Co (Environmental) Ltd, commented, "We approached Weatherite as we felt they could provide high quality units that satisfied the high spec demands of the project and having worked with Weatherite for many years felt they were the right choice for us."

"Thermal wheels are no longer an expensive luxury - they are a necessity especially on applications like this one where there is a requirement to handle large air volumes meaning even higher efficiencies are required" explains Paul Ludlow, Key Account Executive of Weatherite, "the technology has been available for some time, but never has its importance been greater because of stringent building regulations and ever-tighter standards in building-services provision".
