Abraxas Catering Equipment have pledged to donate all money obtained through their scrap metal and redundant equipment recycling scheme to The Midlands Air Ambulance Charity.

Abraxas who specialise in the refurbishment of commercial kitchens and replacement of old, broken, inefficient and redundant kitchen equipment, dispose of several tons of scrap material each year.

Mike Nixon, the company's sales manager, quantifies the waste at 700Kg of steel, stainless steel and aluminium - predominantly from servery counters, sink units, extraction canopies, and tabling. He also observes:

"Although we must all take an active role in recycling as it's crucial to the future of our planet, businesses have far more awareness of their carbon footprint and must take action to reduce their impact on the environment in whatever ways they can."

Indeed, internal CSR policies as well as the European Union's Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive require that waste be transported to a registered recycling facility within proximity of Abraxas' headquarters at Kidderminster in Worcestershire.

These policies also ensure metal recycling activities support local economic development whilst conserving natural resources, helping to lower energy usage and emissions, and minimising pollution.

To celebrate their 20^th year in business, staff at Abraxas have chosen to support the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity which provides tremendous lifesaving services. This follows other fundraising activities this year, including a recent abseil and world cup sweepstake.
