The City of Hamburg has selected a consortium led by smart building data company MeteoViva and automation solutions provider Sauter-Cumulus to retrofit its real estate portfolio with complementary solutions to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions.

A 98 per cent reduction in CO₂ emissions from publicly-owned properties is an essential requirement of Hamburg’s ambition to become carbon neutral by 2045, and was the driving force for the Europe-wide tender which was awarded jointly to the two companies.

Over the next two years, MeteoViva and Sauter-Cumulus will assume responsibility for retrofitting some 700 buildings that have been identified by the city’s real estate company, Sprinkenhof GmbH, as requiring measures to optimise energy efficiency. The selection of facilities includes fire departments, university campuses, district offices and the Congress Center Hamburg – with the new framework agreement extendible by up to six years.

In addition to providing competitive pricing, the bidding consortium was able to convince the city authorities of its expertise as both companies are considered market leaders in their fields, and can build on the experience of numerous successful projects. MeteoViva will develop the simulation model for each target building to be able to calculate and provide the smart data for optimal operation. Sauter-Cumulus, in its turn, will prepare and adapt its plant and building automation to each facility accordingly.
