Making Social Housing Safer

Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council has appointed Kier to deliver fire safety works across its housing stock under a programme which includes replacing 3,600 sets of fire doors.

Kier, a certified member of testing and certification organisation BM TRADA, has committed to working with BM TRADA-approved suppliers on the project, and to the appointment of a BM TRADA “Q-Mark” installation scheme approved project manager.

The contract’s quality assurance process further provides for independent inspections and the production of an electronic record in line with recommendations set out in the United Kingdom’s Building Safety Bill.

Mark Whittaker, managing director of Kier Specialist Services, says: “I am pleased to be working with Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council to carry out important fire safety works across its housing stock.

“Our specialist teams and trusted supply chain partners will diligently carry out these improvements and vitally, engage and explain what we are doing with residents.”

Councilor Nick Pace, Executive Member for Housing and Communities at Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, adds: “This is an important project to help us further improve fire safety standards across our housing stock, ensuring we’re responding to changes in legislation as quickly as possible. We were really impressed by Kier’s track record managing large scale work programmes, including their approach to keeping residents informed, and look forward to working together in the months ahead.”
